Introduction

In recent years, the European Union has gradually issued restrictions on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to reduce their impact on the environment and human health.


  • In 2020, EU member states and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) proposed a comprehensive restriction on all PFAS substances to reduce the use of these chemicals and seek more environmentally friendly alternatives.
  • In February 2023, ECHA officially released a proposal to restrict PFAS substances, covering various PFAS materials, including PTFE, and introducing a series of specific restrictions on production, import, and use.
  • It is expected that new PFAS restrictions will be formally implemented between 2025 and 2026, impacting many industries and encouraging the adoption of alternative materials to meet new environmental requirements.

PFAS are widely used in many industrial and consumer products due to their excellent properties, such as heat resistance and chemical corrosion resistance. Cobetter's hydrophobic PES filter cartridge offers excellent hydrophobic properties and provides comparable airflow performance to hydrophobic PTFE and PVDF filter cartridges. In addition to its good steam resistance, the hydrophobic PES product also demonstrates gamma resistance equivalent to that of hydrophobic PVDF, making it a viable option for single-use system applications.
